The season is over and just like last season, we are hit with another major cliffhanger, this time introducing another new character. The mecha vs kaiju action was just as over the top awesome as expected, but now we have to wait who knows how long for the next wacky and weird season of Dan Da Dan. Without further ado, let’s recap this season’s finale.
Our episode begins with our protagonists trying to figure out how to pilot the giant robot. They comedically fail and the robot is coming apart at the seams. Okarun has to use the ejector seat to exit. The Evil Eye also makes a dramatic exit from the mech and gets a pot shot on the kaiju. Okarun reminds the Evil Eye that he is only allowed to fight on every other Tuesday. While the rest of the cast is clueless as to how to pilot the robot, Kinta figures it out and transforms the robot into what he imagines a tough robot to be, a robot of golden hue. The kaiju and Kinta have a major throwdown involving piledrives and rocket punches.
We get a flashback into the mindset of Kinta, a boy who was
bullied for his love of mecha and science fiction. It turns out that his dream was to be a mecha pilot. He went to the amusement park and rode the roughest rides possible to train for the possibility of handling giant robot piloting without getting motion sick. Despite all his might, the Kaiju uses its tail to grab the mech and piledrive it into the ground. Kinta’s piloting skills is not enough to defeat the giant robot. Momo and Aira use their spiritual abilities to enhance the mech’s power and it finally has the power necessary to defeat the kaiju.
For some reason, the kaiju shrinks after being defeated. A whole crowd of onlookers sees the mess made by the kaiju fight and everyone sees Momo in the mecha. Our protagonists do not like the unwanted attention as the crowd gets their cameras and takes pictures. Momo remembers that the nanocube can transform the mecha into whatever she imagines and she imagines a UFO. The UFO starts to fly away as the crowd continues to take pictures. Meanwhile, Okarun and the Evil Eye, who is now Jiji again, are back on the ground.
Okarun and Jiji carry the shrunken-down kaiju back to Momo’s house, which was in the process of transforming back from a UFO into her house. Okarun wonders where the golden ball is. He looks into the Kaiju’s mouth and finds a zipper. As we all know about kaiju, they are just people in rubber suits. This kaiju is also a person in a suit, in this case an alien. To be exact, it’s a green haired alien with purple antennae. The alien girl wakes up and does something shocking. She smooches Okarun directly on the lips! Momo is devastated and her imagination causes her house to explode. The words “Dan Da Dan” flash on the screen and the show cuts to the credits.
Who is this new alien and how will she fit into the romantic drama
of this series? We’ll have to wait all the way until season 3 comes. Season 2 has been a real ride with it’s unpredictable turns and bizarre events. This may be the weirdest Shonen Jump series since Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, but it’s the captivating kind of weird. The characters, romance, and action all coalesce into an awesome package. I will really miss this show as the Summer 2025 anime season draws to a close.
