Barring a pandemic or two, most movies have a predictable release arc: a theatrical opening, a digital home release about 45 days later, a physical disc release a month after that, and finally a streaming service debut a month or two after the disc release.
Chainsaw Man The Movie: Reze Arc made its US debut in theaters last October. It’s taken four months to even hear about a streaming release but here it finally is: Crunchyroll has confirmed the movie will become available as part of their service later this spring.
The world of Chainsaw Man is plagued by creatures known as Devils who are spawned from the collective fears and negative thoughts of humanity. The constant threat requires hunters to keep their numbers low, and Denji was just such a hunter — until the fateful day he was attacked by the Yakuza and mortally wounded. Denji found a way to cling to life by merging with his pet Devil Pochita, which transformed him into the powerful Chainsaw Man. Now he can sprout chainsaws from any part of his body, and evil doesn’t stand a chance — in theory.
A series like this is sold on its ultraviolence, and this movie has its share of that, but it’s ultimately about LOVE…and the hapless hero who can’t find it even when two women seem to be throwing themselves at him. Denji has finally convinced his boss Makima to go out on a date with him, but right after that, he runs into Rezi — a different girl he barely knows, but develops a fast infatuation for. Now Denji doesn’t know which one to pick, and he’s torn between them.
Better pick the right one! Rezi is a Devil in disguise with the power to blow things up. The real reason she’s latched onto Denji is to lure him to her side. Will temptation get the better of him or will Makima keep him on the correct path?
Chainsaw Man The Movie: Reze Arc stars Kikunosuke Toya as Denji, Shiori Izawa as Pochita, Tomori Kusunoki as Makima, Fairouz Ai as Power and Reina Ueda as Rezi. Tatsuya Yoshihara serves as director, and Studio MAPPA animated the picture. The movie becomes available this spring on Crunchyroll.
