Review: “Spidey & Iron Man: Avengers Team-Up!”: Amazing, Awesome, Mightiest Friends Unite​

The Marvel animated universe on Disney Junior just expanded with the first cross-over special between its current shows, aptly titled Spidey & Iron Man: Avengers Team-Up! Primarily a team-up between Spidey and Iron Man, but without their respective Amazing or Awesome Friends, substituting them with a few Avengers, such as Black Panther, Sam Wilson/Captain America, Hulk, and Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. The special was written by Bart Jennett, and directed by Darren Bachynski and Mitch Stookey, and it is in a way a pilot of sorts for the upcoming Avengers: Mightiest Friends animated series that is set to debut on Disney Junior in 2027.

The plot is fairly simple – this is aimed at a much younger audience, after all. It all starts with Spidey (voiced by Alkaio Thiele, who took on the role starting with season 3 of Spidey & his Amazing Friends) explaining that his friends, Ghost Spider and Spin (the current aliases of Gwen Stacy and Miles Morales), are out of town and he’s left all alone to protect the city. And wouldn’t you know it, his arch enemy the Green Goblin (voiced by JP Karliak) suddenly attacks but is stopped soon enough when his glider starts acting weird. The one responsible for Gobby’s glider glitch is another baddie, though one of Iron Man’s in this case… Ultron (voiced by Tony Hale), who has created a device that lets him control all the tech in the city.

Enter Iron Man (voiced by Mason Blomberg), who tries assisting Spidey but his armor is soon affected by Ultron’s device and is now pretty much useless. Even Spidey’s mechanical web shooters are affected, so the two heroes find themselves in a bit of trouble, until the Avengers arrive on the scene. Black Panther (Cruz Flateau), Sam Wilson/Captain America (Hero Hunter), Hulk (Armen Taylor), and Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel (Sandra Saad), who manage to stop Ultron’s attack by working together. They then take Spidey and Iron Man to Avengers Tower so they can fix their tech.
