AT&T buys Time Warner

I feel that if WarnerMedia one day buys Univision Communications, it would allow WarnerMedia News and Sports (which would take over Univision's news and sports assets) to collaborate with CBS Sports in producing Spanish-language telecasts of CBS Sports programming, like the NFL.

CBS Sports and WarnerMedia already co-produce March Madness.

Doesn't mean it can't be sold again by the end of the decade, especially if a company like WarnerMedia wanted to expand its presence in Spanish-language American programming to compete better with NBCUniversal (owner of Telemundo).

I mean, it's not a focus in the Streaming Wars enough that they would want to buy it. I'd argue if Fox Corporation decided to sell off Fox Sports, AT&T could buy it to expand Turner Sports.

If anything, ViacomCBS's 50% stake in the CW, a merged MGM with Annapurna and/or Samuel Goldwyn Films, etc. are more of the assets that WarnerMedia could use to help themselves expand in terms of content production and even boost HBO Max as well.

There are probably many in Atlanta who objected to AT&T buying Time Warner; the first time Time Warner was bought by a tech company, it set in motion the chain of events that led Atlanta to lose its second NHL team, the Thrashers. Many in Atlanta are still bitter over the move and will not root for their successors, the second Winnipeg Jets.

A remake of Father of the Bride is being developed at WB. Since Disney did the 1990s version, they should have the international rights through 20th Century Studios.

WarnerMedia has sold CNN Center. WM will still occupy the building for the next five years until the ownership is fully transferred.

Discovery CEO David Zaslav said "We're not done yet" at the Sun Valley conference. This implies Disney might be interested in buying content from the company, considering how Bob Iger and Bob Chapek were there. Also possible contenders include Facebook, Apple, Netflix, Alphabet, Amazon and Microsoft. “We’re Not Done Yet” – Discovery CEO David Zaslav At Sun Valley As Moguls Gather In Pared Down, Fully Vaccinated Deal Mode

well Warner Bros. and Disney will never merge well after what happened with fox, not in this lifetime- the rivalry between the two studios goes back many years. Before Turner and Time Warner merged, Ted Turner bought Hanna-Barbera before then-Disney president Michael Eisner could get his hands on the property(I still wonder why Eisner didn't purchase Ruby-Spears for Disney, so that would give disney lessons about closing down blue sky studios). The Warner Bros.-Disney rivalry will go on for many years and don't be surprised if Cartoon Network's fortunes greatly improve under tom ascheim's leadership, it's just a matter of time.

The vultures are certainly swarming aren't they? Honestly, at this point I'm not exactly against Discovery & WB merging. Can't imagine the others bringing anything to the table. At this point, much like Amazon bought MGM, it's all about the content.

With MGM possibly being only an appetizer for Amazon, WB-D potentially being a main course, given that Amazon might want to one day reunite the MGM libraries (like how Turner-Time Warner reunited the WB libraries, and how Viacom's acquisition of Spelling got what Paramount sold to UMM TV Corp. back under that studio's ownership).

Well, we're well aware these studios aren't thinking in long-term missions like that.

Following up on this, a combined WB-MGM under Amazon ownership could collaborate with Paramount on a reboot of the Shaft film series. MGM was the original studio behind the 1970s trilogy, which is now owned by WB, the US distributor of Shaft '19, while Paramount was the studio behind Shaft 2000.

MGM/WB would distribute the reboot, ideally titled "John Shaft" (to avoid confusing itself with the three movies simply titled "Shaft"), in North America, and Paramount would distribute internationally.

WarnerMedia may sell TMZ to Fox Corporation.

The AT&T fire sale continues , I wonder if it's possible Discovery doesn't want to own TMZ, I thought it would have just transferred over with the Warner sale, interesting.

Yeah, so late in the process, it may have been under discussion beforehand.

They did.

They did.

THR confirmed the same value as $50 million but Deadline however, says it came out to be between $100-$125 million instead:

"Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but someone familiar with the sale pegged the value of the deal to The Hollywood Reporter at less than $50 million."

From Deadline's article:

"Terms were not disclosed, but the deal is believed to be worth in the range of $100 million to $125 million."

And TMZ founder, Harvey Levin, who is going over to Fox Corporation as well had a few words:

"Levin, a former attorney who has become a signature on-air presence on TMZ’s syndicated shows, said the company “couldn’t be more charged” about the transaction. Fox Entertainment is opening up a world of opportunities for TMZ to grow our current platforms and expand in every which way.”"

Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
