This year's Emmy nominations are out and once again, here at Toonzone we discuss the animation related ones. In addition to many of the usual shows getting nominated, we get a couple of shows who get their very first chance at winning the award.

Here are the three categories related to animation:

Outstanding Animated Program
- Archer, "Pocket Listing"
- Bob's Burgers, "Can't Buy Me Math"
- Over the Garden Wall
- The Simpsons, "Treehouse of Horror XXV"
- South Park, "Freemium Isn't Free"

Outstanding Short-Format Animated Program
- Adventure Time, "Jake the Brick"
- Disney Mickey Mouse "Mumbai Madness"
- Regular Show, "The White Elephant Gift Exchange"
- Robot Chicken, "Chiptole Miserable"
- Steven Universe, "Lion 3: Straight to Video"
- Wander Over Yonder, "The Gift 2: The Giftening"

Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance
- John Roberts, "Bob's Burgers" (Episode "Eat, Spray, Linda")
- Seth MacFarlane, "Family Guy" (Episode "Our Idiot Brian")
- Seth Green, "Robot Chicken" (Episode "Victoria's Secret of Nymph")
- Dan Castellaneta, "The Simpsons" (Episode "Bart's New Friend")
- Tress MacNeille, "The Simpsons" (Episode "My Fare Lady")
- Hank Azaria, "The Simpsons" (Episode "The Princess Guide")

Additionally, The Simpsons got a nomination for Sound Mixing, and Sofia the First: The Curse of Princess Ivy got one for Music Composition. You can view the full list of nominees here.

I like most of these nominations.

Over the Garden Wall would be my pick because of just how fantastic I found it. It was short, but it was amazing.

The Lion 3 episode would be my next pick. Just way too much emotion in this episode and it worked so well.

I would also say John Roberts should get the voice acting one because of how great he was in that episode. Linda can be decent as a character, but never as my favorite character, but she was great in that episode.

Outstanding Animated Program: Over the Garden Wall. No contest. It's my favorite cartoon series, period.
Short Format Animated Program: Disney Mickey Mouse "Mumbai Madness". Not only do they go as all out with the environment as possible with the run time, but there's a very high level of energy with enough quieter moments to help balance things out. Just a really fun ride the whole way through.

I'm rooting for Mickey Mouse , Wander Over Yonder, and Sofia the First. I haven't seen the other stuff.

For Outstanding Animated Program, I pick Over the Garden Wall. That miniseries was incredible. Such great animation, interesting characters, and engaging story. Definitely one of my favorite cartoons.

As for Outstanding Short-Format Animated Program, I'm torn between Adventure Time's "Jake the Brick" and Steven Universe's "Lion 3: Straight to Video" as I found both episodes very interesting and enjoyable. Lion 3 had more of an emotional impact, but Jake the Brick doesn't require knowledge of previous episodes to fully enjoy it.

You know, as much as I loooooove Bob's Burgers, I hope Over the Garden Wall takes the win in Outstanding Animated Program. I really want that series to push the idea that if major networks can't put in the money for a full program, then the idea of experimenting with smaller shows is something worth looking into. But I am totally all for John Roberts winning for voice acting; his Linda is fantastic.

Also fingers crossed "Lion 3" will win, that thing is an emotional gut punch and ultimately sold me on Steven Universe.
