Frankly I think Cartoon Network is irrelevant anymore. Kids don't really watch cable, the people who'd be tuning in for Checkered Past and Superman are young adults and 30-somethings.
A half hour of Dexter is scheduled for October 1st... but cripes their first major success in original animation and it got 3 half hours total for this event.
I honestly think they only really need to give airtime to the following older shows:
Dexter's Lab
Johnny Bravo
Power Puff Girls
Cow & Chicken (maybe)
Edd, Edd, n Eddy
Courage
Billy & Mandy
KND
Foster's
Camp Lazlo
Chowder
Flapjack
Others like Regular Show and Adventure Time are more current and...
Lets hope they dig further back than 2018. CN wouldn't have made it if it wasn't for their HB and WB library and their initial slate of Cartoon Cartoons.
Philo is only showing the two showings on the 22nd and 23rd for me, so its unclear whether this is a one off thing (for maybe the start of spring for some reason) or is a regular part of the schedule now.
Nick is Nick. That includes P+, PlutoTV, Nicktoons, and TeenNick.
Now I do see TeenNick being shut down, and if it does it'll be sooner rather than later. I don't pretend to know the economics of PlutoTV but with how they've curtailed classic programming there too I don't really care.
TAS was created as a season 4 (and5) of TOS, it used many unused TOS scripts, was run by Rodenberry himself, and wasn't anymore explicitly for kids than TOS was.
Frankly nostalgia is like a wave. It rises, crests, breaks, and subsides. Nick probably saw the block losing viewship as it went on and at a certain point it became more expensive to do more than basic maintenance on the block, especially with linear cable dying as it is.
Likewise Nick...
Lamenting the loss of a block that should have died or been retooled years ago.
This is an example of the block at its best, a real honest to god attempt to recapture the feeling of watching Nickelodeon at the turn of the century.
I imagine everything is in flux. If P+ really takes off and becomes self-sustaining and the trend of linear cable losing subscribers continues I could see Viacom consolidating their channel space and start doing more P+ First or P+ Same Day premiers of shows.
Except for NickJr I think its the longest running block of programming that Nickelodeon ever did.
I haven't really watched since they stopped putting effort into the packaging of the block. There wasn't really a point when they didn't try to make it feel like Golden Age Nickelodeon with...
How about a de-brand back to the classic Splat, add 90s and early 00s Nickcoms to Nick@Nite, and restore Nicktoons to being a network for all Nicktoons.
Seems pretty clear that Nick wants the target demo of NickRewind, ~25-35 year olds, to subscribe to Paramount+ to get their nostalgic Nick fix.
Especially when they have on screen elements like the below during these marathons.
They probably won't have any special branding or bumpers again this year.
The 2015 Christmas bumpers on The Splat were outstanding and recaptured the feeling of watching Nick back at the turn of the century.
I just don't get what WB is doing. Boomerang and now HBO Max do not have their entire library of CN cartoons. No Johnny Bravo, no Cow & Chicken, etc, and what they do have is incomplete. No Ego Trip, no Big Picture Show, no PPG Movie, etc.
