It feels great to finally get a Spike episode that most people can agree is actually well done. What I think made Spike shine most here is that he does everything with good intentions and uses his own judgement in all the right ways. He even served as a sort of mentor to another character which...
This is really looking to be great! Everything looks and sounds faithful to the original show yet still contemporary to today's TV environment. I'm personally glad they went the 2D route and went with flash instead of CG. IMO, this is how you modernize an old classic~
Finally got around to watching this episode.
I felt a really big connection to this episode as I'll admit I'm not very good at being social/friendly with others. I can sort of see myself in either Twilight's or Moon Dancer's positions in that I suck at maintaining friendships and at the same...
Okay, having seen the full episode now...I still hate these yaks... I thought the plot felt really forced here. Thankfully it's the only downer for me as this episode is otherwise a pretty good Pinkie Pie episode.
We get some shoutouts to what we've seen before: Dodge Junction, Manehattan...
Okay, I already hate these yaks... The episode hasn't finished yet, but I'm confused why the mane 6 are even bothering to cater to their exacting preferences this much. Whatever happened to "When in Rome"?
Those are actually some good ideas to touch on IMO. I'm more curious about whether he'll explore a little further about his dragon roots. I know the show has already explored some of that in Dragonshy, but I'd like to see a sort of sequel episode to that and have him interact with dragons other...
If you want my opinion on the bookend presentation, I personally like it. I think it'd be a good final scene for the final episode. As for the idea of bringing back all the villains: probably not all at once as it risks making things a little too messy and crowded, or at least not involve all of...
Nothing spectacular about this episode, but nothing terrible about it either. A pretty run-of-the-mill episode.
The whole "abusing connections with powerful figures" concept is something of a cliche, and the absence of the rest of the mane 6 (even Twilight was barely in this episode) did make...
Season 6 was announced just before they started showing this season. As to whether they'll ever do this again, I totally would like to see it myself, I'm with you there, though it's probably unlikely. Who knows?
Some people may call it "fan pandering", but I call it "celebrating with the fans". Much of what was used in this episode is stuff that fans helped create through fan works. When you think of it that way, it's easy to imagine this episode as more than just tossing the fans a bone and more as...
I really don't understand your beef with this episode's "fan-pandering". The show's creators have the fans to thank for the series reaching this milestone; of course they're gonna throw in some stuff to reward the fans who helped the show make it this far. Besides, it's not like they do this often.
This episode was GOLD. Derpy messing things up, Doctor Hooves and his scientific stuff, Lyra and Bon Bon and the whole secret identity thing shaking up their friendship, Octavia Melody and Vinyl Scratch literally scooping up everybody for the wedding while cooking up a cool song at the same...
A lot of people would probably say Spike from My Little Pony.
I'm not one of these people, though. I'm the kinda guy who appreciates every episode of MLP.
I'd say he's spot on with Mr. Burns and Otto. His Flanders is also pretty good, not 100% but very very close. Kent Brockman, Smithers and Reverend Lovejoy are a little off; close but no cigar. There are some Shearer characters he admitted he couldn't pull off and thus didn't bother but whoever...
I also noticed something: when Gilda, RD and PP climb out of the chasm, they actually climbed ON TOP of the giant skull on their way up, which is pretty spooky now that I notice that. For an otherwise tame episode, there are a few badass moments here and there.
...Now it's got me thinking of...
This is one of the more simpler, laid-back episodes, but it works, and we get some bit of adventury goodness towards the end anyway. Gilda was still sour from her last appearance in Griffin the Brush Off, but it was nice to see her refriend Rainbow Dash and make a new friend out of Pinkie Pie. A...
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and state that I kinda disagree with this statement, particularly with what's in bold. Almost every kid I know or have come across seem to eat up just about anything, good or bad, on TV basing things solely on what they think LOOKS cool. Even my oldest niece...
It's amazing how far with the whole "hippie" thing Tree Hugger got away with in this episode. I mean, just look at her: she looks like the kind of hippie who appears to be under the influence of something. The fact she didn't even remember her first encounter with Discord and had to re-introduce...
I suppose you have a point. Still, there are better ways to make a party less boring without having something random or possibly terrible happen, like scene-making arguments and attempting to send someone to another dimension.
I can't believe I totally missed the Metal Gear Solid Reference at first... Looking back at the box with the exclamation points, I must say I'm really surprised they made that reference considering it's referencing a game franchise that's not even meant for kids. This show loves to make...
Oh boy, this episode was FUN.
Lot's of cool choices of characters this episode. Let's see, we have Discord, who is easily my favorite character in the show and John De Lancie does a spectacular performance as usual. We have the Smooze, not a new character in the franchise, but not seen since...
I think it should be said to those who believe nothing can be done about bullying or that it's foolish to think it won't happen to anyone, that there was a time when it was socially unacceptable for girls to like boy things (and in some places, this still persists to a degree). Look where the...
Here's an episode where you really have to watch it to see what it's really about as I wouldn't have guessed from the synopsis that there really isn't a criminal on the loose, just a sour stallion who happens to be really clumsy. The CMC's find out that he's no villain and decide to help him...
I'm sure most of us already knew it had a "death" sort of theme: the whole hibernation thing was just to make it more "kid-friendly". Let's not forget that since Hasbro is not going to bring death into MLP, it's the closest it's ever gonna get to one and I think it still accomplished being an...
Let's face it, how many people even remember Dirdy Birdy on Cartoon Sushi? How many even know about it? The campaign was a dud from the start.
That said, I would've loved to see a sequel myself and I do hope Dilworth finds some other way to continue it. However, I think he would be better off...
Robots dying doesn't count in my book.
Thinking about it now, that's the only other thing that bothers me a little about this episode... But then again, it resulted in what everybody (except RD) was intending, and backfired in RD's face so it evens out.
Okay, now that I've seen the episode, sure enough this was an episode that showed some tender moments between Rainbow Dash and Tank and I find it really cute and touching. Even though Rainbow showed a lot of immaturity and selfishness here (the part where she tells Spike "You're a dragon, what...
I know I should reserve my opinion until I've seen the full episode, but something about the general plot sounds somewhat endearing to me. Rainbow Dash seems to care enough about Tank to keep him from being absent from her for a while. I'm looking forward to watching another episode about bonding.
As I've stated in a previous comment, this season seems to have a "Who you are" motif going and it's something I'm really enjoying so far, mainly because it's something I can relate to in a way. This is probably why I like any episode that has the Cutie Mark Crusaders as they're still trying to...
It really all depends on how it's all handled. IMO, a predictable plot doesn't necessarily make an episode bad automatically, it's only bad if the ending is predictable. Sure we all figured out quickly it was a dream episode but I don't see how that ruined this episode; every scene was still...
Before it even went to the first commercial break, I had a feeling everything was all a nightmare. Nonetheless, I liked how this episode was full of surprises otherwise. Each nightmare kept me guessing what would happen next. I really like it when the setting is a dream, even if it also happens...
Predictable plot is predictable. Seriously, I saw the problem coming from a mile away as soon as Twilight's friends started bringing things to the castle. Still, I was looking forward to this episode as I kinda wanted the show to address the issue of Twilight's old home being gone forever after...
Actually, I was surprised to learn Party Favor was done by Sam Vincent. I've come to recognize his voice so well over the years yet I still find it hard to believe it's his voice behind that unicorn stallion.
That shouldn't be too surprising considering many of the VA's for MLP also work for the Ocean Group, which is famous for making a lot of anime dubs and, like DHX Media, is also based in Vancouver.
Speaking of Tirek, the idea of disappearing cutie marks reminds me of how he would absorb every pony's energy to the point their cutie marks would fade away. Does this mean cutie marks are a possible energy source? If so, could this mean Tirek could be using Starlight Glimmer to harvest enough...
Although I enjoyed this season premiere, I'm hoping this new magical map isn't going to be brought up too often. As much as I like seeing the ponies go on new adventures, the whole idea of the castle sending them on "missions" doesn't really sit well with me. I prefer the ponies find adventures...
Wow, what can I say, this episode was gold~ The flashback scene for the episode opener was interesting, there were no boring human sub-plots, the guest pet was really cool, the concept taken from the movie 'Groundhog Day' really worked well here, we see all the pets doing everything, this was a...
90's cartoons had a lot more variety and were going through a point of evolution as others have stated. This is not to say that the 90's didn't have any bad shows, but they did have a LOT of good cartoons and it helped that they had more staying power compared to some of today's cartoons, even...
