I just feel whoever is handling the schedules for the Italian feeds of CN and Boomerang doesn’t really know what they’re doing. In fact the FTA Boing and Cartoonito channels which are under a different management are handled way better.
Back in May 2023 they advertised The New Scooby Doo...
It depends in which country. In northern Europe countries English knowledge is much higher than let’s say France or Italy.
Then it also depends what programs. If they’re airing an old theatrical cartoon like Looney Tunes and such you don’t really need to have everything dubbed. It’s preferable...
I'm a bit late joining the discussion, but in any case I see this new western Europe feed already having 8 audio tracks, which is the maximum allowed amount of mono audio tracks in pretty much any broadcast standard, including XDCAM and XAVC. These days though software sometimes allows a certain...
@Moleoman From an old recording I recently found I indentified the song Latin Eyes (Warner Chappell) in a Looney Tunes promo from February 2001 on Cartoon Network Italy
In Italy since the Discovery merge Boomerang became basically the paid version of Cartoonito (except it's even worse), while they moved everything over CN.
I wish they'd use at least the On Demand service and Now in Italy and the UK to put old programming in there.
Tooncast was on autopilot...
The EU quota is just a directive, and according to multiple court cases it doesn't even apply to theme-oriented TV networks.
A directive aims at a result, it's not a law. That's up to national governments. For an example France has a French quota law on free to air TV.
Discovery's channels in...
In Italy we had a late night schedule back in 2016, with The Flintstones and Wacky Races. Then they moved them over CN for a while. The one that worked best imo was the Ka Boom slot on the French Boomerang.
In any case, isn't an entire channel aimed at preschoolers a bit overkill these days? If...
I have no idea what they're even trying to do with it. Besides Tom and Jerry anything from the WB library has been moved to Cartoon Network.
LT Cartoons premiered on Boomerang but now air on CN. Scooby Doo is on CN now, and next monday they're doing a Where Are You marathon (first time I see...
A few months I jokingly called Boomerang IT the Barbie channel.
I didn't realize I shouldn't give them ideas because they're actually doing a Barbie pop up channel
Me neither. It reminds me of what it used to be in the past 7 years before the 2015 rebrand.
The schedule looks like a poor attempt at replicating Cartoonito.
Even though they're modern series, at least they have WB properties airing at graveyard slots. I wish they'd put KaBoom in there.
@Francisque How is the market that different today? The only difference I see is on demand services such as Netflix and D+.
I assume they removed many shows from Tooncast in order to push for HBO Max subscriptions. I think they'll be back in some months.
Anyway, here's a CN Italy schedule from 2002: cartoni animati in tv
I posted this here to show you how they totally managed to keep new series, classics and...
Last time I checked CN and Boomerang Italy aired with an Ofcom licence, but they do have their studios in Rome for various marketing operations and such. I remember looking at a list of Sky TV channels and they were among the few which aired from London.
And licence aside, the only WB property...
All I know is they broadcast from Mediaset's broadcast studios, even though the channels themselves are handled by WarnerMedia. They air with an Italian license anyway.
Speaking of Discovery, they have two youth oriented FTA networks in Italy, and I see they air most of the same European stuff...
Cartoonito in Italy was launched as a FTA channel partly owned my Mediaset like Boing. It doesn't operate in London but it's handled by the Mediaset team.
If you look at the programming though it's almost identical to Boomerang, and to me it feels pointless as why would anyone subscribe to a...
I see Boomerang Italy right now is filled with British content, from Thomas the Tank Engine to Mr Bean and Love Monster.
CN seems to have European shows only on graveyard slots, but they're CN original shows anyway.
The FTA channels such as Boing here don't follow an EU quota at all.
Anyway...
What kind of contract obligation do they have?
I thought they had no EU quota obligations after Brexit.
Sometimes I check Boomerang's schedule in Italy and it's just depressing. 10% of modern WB series and the rest all pre school imports. The other EMEA feeds look pretty bad as well. Only the...
Yes but they broadcast from Milan. The masters are taken from the same warehouse in Milan where they're taken for Italia 1 broadcasts, not from the London one.
Boing and Cartoonito in Italy don't broadcast from London, they're owned by Mediaset.
I hope they won't ditch the channel because sometimes in their marathons I see some classics. But it's very sad to see they don't use it for WB properties anymore, which should take the entire schedule imo.
Right now the only WB properties airing on Boomerang in Italy are the Tom and Jerry series. How sad.
Looney Tunes Cartoons was moved over CN for some reason, maybe because of HD. Jellystone premiered on CN.
They're mostly stock music, but I have no idea which tracks they used. @LooneyTuney18
Something similar was done with the Sunset package Looney Tunes, and in that case I found the tracks through Content ID.
Just curious, do you work on television? I had a brief experience, so that's where my knowledge comes from.
As for those PAL masters shown in America, I already explained in a previous thread they're part of a 50th anniversary compilation which ended up being used to make masters with an...
I see that you did some research.
But yes, afaik they used 1 inch tape for all the early VHS masters. The 88-90 masters (at least the source material) were mastered on D2 and the Turner remasters on DCT.
In Italy I can hardly see them replace Boomerang with Cartoonito, because the latter is a FTA channel here partly owned by Mediaset.
But I see many WB series moving over CN and Boomerang is getting even more filled with European imports.
I can't edit my old post. The Elmer Fudd MGM tape has in its full version Bingo Crosbyana, She Was an Acrobat's Daughter, I'm a Big Shot Now and Rhapsody in Rivets.
I see many old SD masters on Now TV. My Little Duckaroo is the copy aired on CN France though.
EDIT: My curiosity went so far I started a free trial there, and they're the censored HD copies used in the UK, but with the thumbnails taken from the French SD masters.
Right now on the UK feed they re added in rotation the shorts which didn't have an HD master at the time they got them. Maybe they'll do something when the new series premieres.
Just as I predicted, they'll do a pop up channel in Italy to premiere the Looney Tunes Cartoons classics. I read it on a press release an hour ago.
I expect classics will be there. I kinda hope they won't use that awful yellow frame for 4:3 content.
For around 5 years Boomerang IT always did a pop up channel in June, usually to premiere a new series or new episodes.
It could be they'll premiere the Looney Tunes Cartoons series this June.
To those who want to know if the schedule changed, it's even more trash than last month.
To be fair I'd take the current branding any day over the 2012 look by Mainframe.
But the original ribbon branding was easily the best to me, I think even from a marketing standpoint it shows all the characters in a way the other brandings never did.
The sad part is how Cartoonito has more classics than Boomerang here. Sometimes they show Looney Tunes movie and have a Sylvester and Tweety block late at night.
They also have way more variety for the new WB animated series, along with Boing here.
It seems like they use Boomerang just for...
Besides the Tom and Jerry Show right now Boomerang IT has just pre school stuff. I don't even know what they're trying to do with it, couldn't they just put those shows on a morning block?
In order to see classics I have to wait until June to see if they do a summer pop up channel, and it's...
I saw that iTunes playlist. They threw everything already available in there, so duplicates and such.
In any case, due to the fact they delete shorts out of nowhere, I don't feel bad at all for downloading them.
And that's the whole reason why I prefer physical media.
I have some bad recordings of a few of the removed ones, and some not at all, like Hamateur Night which I'd love to see remastered.
The Polish dubs were dubbed on earlier raw material, like the Time Out dubs, not the multi-track package. I can only tell by the placement of the picture in The Astroduck, but that's enough for me.
It happened in those multi-track versions (again the only hint I have is the Tabasco Road audio)...
I'll try, but it's very difficult to explain.
I said already that WB had two packages with music/effects tracks. The first was derived from a VHS series, the second made up by most shorts which had a track ready and a recent master (for the time anyway).
All I'm gonna say here is related to...
