What bugs me the most, honestly, is it doesn't make sense story-wise. You said Boris saw the death ray, so why would he destroy it if he knew that would happen? Obviously there's a reason in the real world - me thinking I'd already done it - but it doesn't make sense from an in-universe perspective.

Er, well, I was thinking more along the lines of "Since I obviously meant to do something else, let's pretend it didn't happen." But if that's not an option, I would certainly be willing to go the time traveler route.
