As much as I love Ed Eddn Eddy am I the only one who hated that the Kankers always win against them?

I mean the Eds lose in pretty much all of the episodes, not just against the Kankers but also to everyone else, that's the point of the show they're lovable losers but only to us the viewers.

The way the show used the kankers was odd to say the least. Season 1 used them a lot, way too much in fact, pretty sure half of the season had them make the Eds lose at the end, sometimes they just came out of literally nowhere to end the plot. Then their screentime was reduced, especially in seasons 3 and 5. May was the only one of the 3 to get episodes where she's a main character (Ed Overboard and the Valentine's special) and a personality that differs from her sisters, whereas the other 2 were pretty much the same exact character that never got an episode to themselves.

Yes I know that they lose pretty much all of the episodes not just the Kankers I know that they are supposed to lose in episodes that don't include the Kankers in it but the Eds are the protagonists and the Kankers are the antagonists shouldn't they win against the Kankers if they are the protagonists why do you think the Kankers always win against the Eds when they are the antagonists and can you tell me what the point is?

Ok the Kankers were there to stop the Eds scams but why did they always win against them they are the antagonists can you please tell me why I wish you could answer?

Ed Edd n Eddy is a mean spirited series where the creative team (especially the creator Danny Antonnunci) finds it most amusing to have the Eds constantly lose over and over because of their scams and always be punished and having one set of characters who are best AT punishing them usually means they are the ones picked to do so the most.

There answered it as simply as I could I hope that satisfies you for an answer.

Agreed ok so that's the answer but why do they get punished when they do legit services like I said such as the cruise ship and the Squirt guns etc these scams/ services are legit and aren't doing any harm why do the Eds still to have to fail and lose and get punished by the Kankers even when the scams aren't bad and don't do any harm?

Why is Daffy Duck always the one who gets shot instead of Bugs Bunny? Why can Wile E. Coyote never seem to catch the Road Runner?
I'm not surprised the Looney Tunes analogy popped up becaude they do feel a bit like mean-spirited classic cartoon characters. However, I do think there is a key difference.

I'm actually surprised we're on page 2 already and nobody has mentioned what I consider the main problem with the Kanker sisters. They are not just bullies, they also inappropriately touch the Eds and kiss them against their will. What other cartoon characters do that and don't get punished for it??

Now imagine a gender-swapped Edie, Eda 'n Edwina. Can you imagine them being kissed and inappropriately touched by a group of teenage boys?

Humans hurting each other feels so different from cartoon animals doing so. And male characters getting hurt feels different (more normalized) from female characters getting hurt.

Ive asked this question before but I'm going to ask you why do the Kankers always win when they are the antagonists and the Eds are the protagonists shouldn't the Eds win if they are protagonists and what other cartoons have heelish characters win other than Ed Eddn Eddy and Total Drama?

You don't need to ask every individual forum member the same question. This is not a chatroom. Everyone is supposed to read at least the first post, ideally all posts, so I can assure you that everyone has read your question :)

Ok but are there are any more examples of shows other than Ed Eddn Eddy and Total Drama that have the heelish characters win?

.... Okay when I say "Ed Edd n Eddy is a mean spirited series where the creative team (especially the creator Danny Antonnunci) finds it most amusing to have the Eds constantly lose over and over because of their scams and always be punished and having one set of characters who are best AT punishing them usually means they are the ones picked to do so the most" what do YOU hear?

EEE 97% of the time is about the comedy and most time they find it funniest to have the Eds lose even if their scam is legit because again this isn't a show focused on morals at all (which is actually the reason why Nickelodeon rejected it thinking about it) but about cartoonish slapstick. And again in a meanspirited series it doesn't care as much if the character doesn't deserve the slapstick so long as they feel the slapstick will lead to amusement, it will happen anyway.

We can debate on whether or not that is funny or if it crosses the line like that's something clearly subjective. But the reason WHY they made it that way is objective and has been explained so yeah new guy you need to stop asking that question and move on please.

Did you feel or anyone else here like Ed Eddn Eddy as a kid but feel bad for them because they always lost and didn't get happy endings but growing up you realized that was the point of the show that the Eds aren't supposed to win and are supposed to get punished and not have a happy ending because they are scamming people and it doesn't matter if the scam is legit or not?

Did anyone feel bad for the Eds as a kid when they always lose and not get a happy ending?

Okay first off the new guy in the future please do not double post in a thread YOU made just because you don't get an answer. Sometimes a topic dies as people only have so much to say about it and you have to accept that and move on. Toonzone/Anime Super Hero Forums are about people sharing opinions but yeah everyone has their own opinion and some may not want to/not have anything to share so you shouldn't force the topic if you don't want.

That being said, there was a point where I don't think I felt bad for the Eds, I admittedly was getting a bit exhausted of the formula and wanted at least the characters who did the wrong to get proper comeuppance and for there to be a sense of catharssis. I think it was specifically after "Ed In A Halfshell" "Mirror Mirror On The Ed" I was feeling the wear of the formula for awhile and though didn't conciously make a choice to quit the series, I did stop seeking out new episodes of EEE for like a year. Now this was late 2000 into 2001 where EEE was still in it's playing heyday so I still saw glimpses of new episodes but wasn't watching the series fully. Eventually though I caught most of "Dim Lit Ed" and was laughing quite a bit and honestly I think the fact that one technically did end in a very slight win for Eddy (though not for Edd) gave me enough of a "okay this show is too funny to fully drop" and eventually caught up on the episodes I missed and got back to more regularly watching the show.

I do get people who can't stomach that especially if they are used to cartoons now that wouldn't constantly be so punishing to their leads.

Ok there was a point where you didn't feel bad for the Eds but was there a point where you actually felt bad for them?
