The "Nintendo Switch 2" News and Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown (February 18)
Another Star Trek game that I'd like to see announced this year for the Switch 2 is a game crossing the franchise over with Nintendo's Star Fox.

The game would utilize characters and settings from the TNG-era Star Trek series and its plot would involve the planets of the Lylat System attempting to join the United Federation of Planets.

It would not be canon to either franchise.

I was finally able to buy a Nintendo Switch 2, specifically the Mario Kart World bundle. All signs point to the Switch 2 going up in price before the end of the year (if the PS5 and Xbox all went up in price, what's to stop Nintendo?).

We started to go buy one in early April, only to discover our local Walmart had just sold out of the bundle version (all they had was the regular Switch 2 with no game). They said they checked the system and they showed they should get more of the bundle version in stock on April 23rd.

So I called the local Walmart back on April 23rd, asking if they had it in stock, and they look it up in the system and say "Yeah, it says that bundle has been discontinued". I'm like "That's not what you told me 2 or 3 weeks ago".

So I start calling around to local GameStops, and they say they're all sold out. Some of them are saying they don't expect to get another "bundle" until Pokemon Wind and Wave comes out. I call another Walmart, and they say the same thing "System says it's discontinued" but he checks for other Walmarts....and discovers there's a Walmart in a small town an hour away that has 4 or 5 remaining "Mario Kart bundle" Switch 2s.

So yeah, the next day, I drive an hour to that small town and I buy one. Now it's sitting in a secure place in the house....where we're going to keep it until Christmas. Yes, this is a Christmas present for the whole family (myself included, though it's likely the kids who will play more on the Switch 2. I tend to play more on the PS5). I just didn't want to miss a chance to get the bundle (and have to pay more for Mario Kart World).

I think that you got hit with Pokémon Pokopia hype that drove Switch 2 sales up like crazy.

It was kinda quiet before Pokémon Pokopia came out.

OMG, I'm super addicted with Pokémon Pokopia and I played almost 400 hours now.

And it's now confirmed - the Switch 2 is going up in price (from $450 to $500 for the base version).

Granted, the price increase is not set to take effect until September (better than the "one week" notice PlayStation gave for the increase in prices on their products earlier this year).

So yeah, I was right to go ahead and get a Switch 2 now (and I'm glad I was able to track down a bundle with Mario Kart World included)!

Yeah, it is basically $500 Switch 2 without Mario Kart World game.

Welp, I better get one. Hopefully, I won't have too much trouble doing so.

Yeah, that's pretty rough news. All things considered, fifty dollars isn't the worse price hike and they at least gave fans a notice well in advance, but that's still a pretty penny for a new system. They recently announced a Switch 2 bundle with Pokemon Pokopia for Australia and New Zealand. Even though there's no word on that bundle getting a release in the U.S. yet, it did make me wish that I had waited for a bundle like that instead. But now, I'm kind of relieved in a selfish way that I already have a Switch 2. I still haven't set it up yet, but trying to get one now before September would have been more financially difficult for me now than it was when I got it last December.

I spent 410 hours with Pokémon Pokopia and it is super addicting ever.

I can't wait for Gen X - Winds and Waves.

My most favorite Pokémon is Tinkaton.

If Iwata were alive, they would have cushioned the blow by making the version bundled with a game the default.

The price increase for Nintendo Switch 2 isn't just for the United States and Canada only; it's also for sales of the system on the European My Nintendo Store as well.

That said, I already have my Nintendo Switch 2 console so I'm pretty much all set for now.

You better hurry up to find one, lol.

You get until September 1 to find one.
Well, I was able to get the Switch 2 and Mario Galaxy bundle over the weekend. Still, that meant I essentially got the Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 for $50 (its MSRP was $70), but Nintendo doesn't exactly offer large discounts for older games/releases. Too bad I wasn't interested in Mario Kart World (I tried Mario Kart 8, and it wasn't for me), and I wouldn't have minded getting a Donkey Kong Bananza bundle for $500 instead, but I'll take what I can get.

Holy crap, over 400 hours on a game that released just over 2 months ago already?

Yeah, it released on March 5, 2026.

Well now....turns out Nintendo is releasing a new "Choose Your Game" Switch 2 bundle in June:

You get to pick between Mario Kart World, Pokopia and Donkey Kong Bonanza.

That would've been nice for me to know about a few days ago when I got the bundle with the Mario Galaxy games since getting Donkey Kong Bananza would've been a better deal for being a newer and an actual Nintendo Switch 2 game, but whatever.

Yeah, it released on March 5, 2026.
Actually, I was astounded that you were able to get so many hours in such a short span of time.

That does sound pretty cool. Having the option to pick between those games instead of making three separate bundles is probably cost effective for Nintendo, but it also gives some nice variety for fans. A part of me kind of wishes I had waited for this bundle just so that I could get Pokopia with a Switch 2, but at the same time, I'm relieved that I already have the system. I'll eventually set it up and get Pokopia digitally since I'm not paying for a game key card. A friend of mine hasn't gotten a Switch 2 yet, so this bundle might be worthwhile for her.

I'm really torn. This is a good deal all things considered, but you know Nintendo's gonna come out with a hardware refresh with a bigger battery and an OLED screen.

Lucky me, I was able to buy the Mario Kart World Bundle from a local Walmart that was 15 minutes away from my hometown back in July 2025. I mean, when it launched back in June, being $450, people called it "the most expensive console ever," which I don't agree with because the Panasonic 3DO was $700 in 1993 at launch, which is the equivalent of $1,600 in adjusted inflation in 2025. And if you want something that is modern, the PS3 was $500 (equivalent to $800 in adjusted inflation in 2025) for the 20GB model and $600 (equivalent to $960 in adjusted inflation) for the 60GB model in 2006. And let's not forget the price launch of its competitors, the physical PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles (not counting the digital versions, which are cheaper), both cost $500 at launch in the 9th generation of consoles.

I've spent 100 hours on Mario Kart World and 75 hours on Pokopia.

Social Media has been swearing up and down that a Nintendo Direct will happen tomorrow. The Nintendo Today! app officially announced one for tomorrow at 10PM EDT.

Long story short, I'm hoping that some people don't expect too much. I mean, there all sorts of things they "could" announce, such as (hypothetically);

-The (sort of) return of the NES.
-A new "FFVIIR" style remake of Super Mario RPG (totally unlikely, but again, it's hypothetical)
-An "Odyssey-style" remake of Super Mario Sunshine (i.e., one that's completely open world)
-A remake of Donkey Kong 64 that features all 3 classic DK arcade games (plus even Mario Bros.).
-A re-release of the original Wild Gunman EM game from the 1970s (the first ever FMV game, although it used actual film; laserdiscs weren't a thing at the time)
-Sega Master System, Turbografx-16, and Game Gear apps for Nintendo Switch Online

But even if these don't get announced (and it's totally unlikely that they will), I'm not going to throw a fit about it, or whine about Nintendo suddenly not giving people what they want (which they tried before during the Wii era, but they knew they had to stop). Besides, as most people know, what people want isn't always what they need.

Whatever happens tomorrow, Nintendo feels like they're in a position to say something (or even not say something). Personally, I'm sure that whatever Nintendo has to announce, it will be something really good...

(sigh...)
