Yu-Gi-Oh! Go Rush!! News and Discussion Thread

I imagine there are plenty of additional characters yet to be introduced. The Darkmen, Otey Usu (Old Otes will have to be recast, as Sevens Otes voice from the dub died), Kuaiduel, Epoch (presumably Tiger’s VA). There is a new character every week, almost… This is a bit of a problem because most characters are like one-note gag characters, the worst of which is Chupataro, who did not need to be in this episode.

I will eventually go back and update the cast lists with the second slides, but it may take a while.

Another huge list… this is a continuation of last week’s duel. Lots of cameos and vague Earthdama nonsense about how Damamu powered by fun and will only survive if they keep dueling. By the way, schedules show next week as the season finale is the last new episode Disney XD is airing on Saturday mornings, before looping back to episode one.

The vague nonsense about the Earthdama always annoyed me. For something that was treated as an important plot point in the first season, they never really do a good job in explaining what it is. The characters seem to treat it like it's typical or at least they don't expand on it for the audience, which just annoyed me about the show's world building.

I'm not surprised that they're going back into reruns after finishing season one. I don't know if they took many breaks earlier, but it's pretty typical for them to go on a break after airing a season finale. I don't know if KCM has already worked on season two, but I suspect that they have at this point. They might wait until late spring or early summer to start airing it.

That's a lot of remake cameos from the 4Kids VAs. I can't imagine it. I want something fresh.

That's only four 4Kids voice actors in that large cast list. Three of them are voicing the Jersey Devil aliens and they really aren't prominent characters. I don't think that they get much dialogue after the first couple of arcs of season two. Even if they were more important characters, I don't think four 4Kids voice actors is that much to begin with.

I think that you're making the returning 4Kids a bigger problem than it actually is. You say that you want something fresh, but ignore that there are a lot of new voice actors in the cast. The dub has included voice actors outside of New York since at least the Sevens dub, so having a few 4Kids voice actors show up to do minor roles doesn't change that. That isn't to say that the dub is perfect. I haven't really seen it, so I can't judge much of its quality, but the dub has had more fresh talent for awhile.

Anyway, I would like to hear veterans like Ian James Corlett, Wendee Lee, Tara Strong, Michael Donovan, Eric Bauza, David Kaye et alibi. What do you think? Is this possible or likely or what?

This is the season finale. Andrew Paull I think is the voice of the Creator. We see him on a planet the dub calls Gouaroosh interacting with Zuwijo and referring to the Velgearians as artificial Kartumata people. I don’t care much for this explanation that the Velgearians are not even aliens but rather just artificial people. There’s also more stuff with Damamu but ultimately his pivotal role was… getting a draw duel, now being healthy again, flying his ship to power one of Yudias’ monsters for a few seconds before a complex combo where he gets sacrificed immediately without attacking. This was also the fate of almost every spaceship piloted card in this duel, so I don’t really get how his role mattered to ending the war between the Velgearians and their unnamed enemy. This intergalactic war never received any meaningful explanation. We do not even know the name of the rival group of aliens, and never got to see any of them. We did see the alien fleet of Nishaw, near the end, but he was just a random indecisive alien who got played up as a major factor by defeating Yudias, only to sit on the sidelines until the last scene. Now the war is just over (despite the rival faction never doing anything in the entire season), with the next arc being a new conflict unrelated to the finale’s events.

However we have to wait more than one week to see it. During this morning's new Beyblade X, they showed an ad for Go Rush, but it said “Watch on disney XD” with the references to new episodes removed. Go Rush is set to go into reruns on Saturday and Sunday mornings. It’s unknown when it will return. BBX premieres continue every Saturday, which is good since I’ve been enjoying this new goth girl character Reiyu Kuwabara. Now that the season is fully aired and on demand, I will go back through the earlier episodes’ credits (41,43-48) and update the credits of earlier posts.

Unlike season 2 which ended on a cliffhanger, I think they didn't know if there was going to be more, The series could have ended here, and have a satisfy enough conclusion. Granted we don't get any confirmation on That Guy's origins, who he is, and how is connected to the protagonist. Still could have ended here and we be fine.

I thought that was a pretty good twist. It explained stuff like why Yudias could withstand extreme hot and cold temperatures, why he didn't age when Yuhi and Yuamu did when they first met Nishaw and why he transformed into a shirt when he ran out of energy. I initially wrote that off as the result of being an alien and having different physical body than a human person, but the notion that the Velgearians are more like living objects than aliens makes a lot of sense.

It also explains why Zwijo was willing to go as far as he did to make them living creatures. Finding out that his race wasn't even really living creatures, and that they were doomed to continue this war as playthings for the Creator would explain why he wanted to use the Earthdama to make them into living creatures, even if it impacted the world like it would have in the third arc. It doesn't make up for the Earthdama being such an annoyingly vague plot device or how it makes the world building in Go Rush actively worse, but I think the twist works in explaining Zwijo's motivation. He was still interesting and mysterious with his appearances through the season, but I don't think he became my favorite until this season finale. Granted, there aren't a lot of Go Rush characters that I like anyway, but I would say that he's the best villain in the series and the best rival since Reiji from Arc V. I hope that they didn't tone down Yudias' love confession to Zwijo in the dub.

There’s also more stuff with Damamu but ultimately his pivotal role was… getting a draw duel, now being healthy again, flying his ship to power one of Yudias’ monsters for a few seconds before a complex combo where he gets sacrificed immediately without attacking. I didn't really mind the duel being a draw. It was mostly done to keep Yuhi and Yuamu busy until near the end of Yudias' duel. The idea of characters Yudias met throughout the season helping him with their cards is nice on paper. It fits with the theme of the franchise and to show how Yudias wanted to end the war differently than Zwijo did, but like I mentioned earlier, it really falls apart when outside of Yuhi and Yuamu, Yudias just didn't build a strong connection with any of these characters. There's just too many characters and the vast majority of them are gimmicky one note characters to boot. There are other friendships in Go Rush that feel believable beyond the main trio, but it's pretty minimum in my opinion. Other than being tied to a Sevens character, London has no real reason to be here for example. There just isn't enough of a connection between Yudias and most of the main/supporting cast to make the whole working together in this major duel feel earned.

As for the war, I'm not too surprised that it doesn't really get a meaningful explanation. From the start, it was more of a plot device designed to showcase both Yudias and Zwijo's personalities and different views on how to end it. I don't think it was supposed to be much more than that. Even when they first arrived on Yudias' home planet, from what I remember at least, the soldiers and generals were more cartoonishly over the top rather than treating their training or the war as something more serious. Unlike the Dimensional War in Arc V, the Velgearian war wasn't treated as one of the big mysteries of the series or a legit threat. It's probably another reason why I didn't find the Velgearians particularly interesting in the long run.

I could see them airing season two sometime this summer. Waiting until the fall is a possibility too, but that would be a pretty long break and I doubt that KCM really needs that much time to get season two ready to air. I assume that they've at least started the season already, but I guess it's hard to say for sure.

Good to have "Andrew Paull" back into the dubbing scene!

I am currently editing the previous posts with info from the second slides, and noticed he is in some other episodes in the 40s. So he must voice someone else besides/in addition to the creator. Looking into the pseudonym it is said to be Chris Collet.

As for Yudias and Zuwijo in the dub Yudias says “that is what I love and admire about you” to Zuwijo in the flower field scene. A few minutes later he calls Zuwijo a friend.
Edit: the cast list is now complete

It's hard to say if that's the typical homophobia of the dub downplaying the love confession with Yudias calling Zwijo a friend. Obviously you can love and admire your friends, but the flower field definitely gave off a more romantic implication with that confession. Admittedly, I'm not invested in the pairing myself, but I was hoping that they wouldn't water down that moment in the dub.

I love how this basically ignores all the criticism Lady Lucario gave just now. I get not wanting to be criticized, because that hurts, no matter how kind and polite, but I beg you to take it to heart and stop this vendetta you have with 4kids returning voice actors. They arent even in any other anime and you want them to be out of a job.

Is this dub made in various dubbing studios via remote recording or in a single studio in New York? Will someone please explain me this?

I think it might be using remote recording.
There seems to be a mix of LA and NY talent, so it is at least partially remote. I imagine it’s somewhat like the 4Kids production of Ninja Turtles where they have two studios?

Does the dub still have the same production staff(not the VAs) between the eps. I know some have worked since the 4kids days unless one have started to retire too?
