Long time I've been away. I'll just make this quick.
The problem is that the cartoons are fundamentally seen as advertisements for other products, in particular the movies and the merchandise.
Additionally, Disney is not Warner Brothers. Disney has a strong family-oriented...
If Marvel were currently doing an X-Men cartoon, it would be WATXM but even more stupid and "childish" in the sense of having a silly mostly-comedy feel and that comedy would basically be toilet humor. It would also be All About Wolvie... and not even Wolvie-as-portrayed-in-XTAS but rather...
OMGOMGOMGOMG....
Please please PLEASE don't screw this up!
For writers, I'd vote for having Marjorie Liu. She grew up on XTAS. She can keep them all in-character and not ruin anyone.
So far, Tony is characterized pretty well (although I admit I'm not a fan of the "killing myself to fix my mistakes because I'M SUCH A BAD PERSON SELF LOATHING" complex, which is direct from 616, is NOT something I like in Tony... MCU Tony, thankfully, doesn't really have that complex... and its...
I agree with you to an extent, however silly action-comedy DOES have its place, and excessive dark-and-gritty can go overboard.
In general I think part of the problem is Fox still having the X-Men movie rights... X-Men is the PERFECT franchise for dark and gritty (whilst still having...
Professor X (of course)
Cyclops
Beast
Jean Grey
Iceman
Emma Frost
Storm
Gambit
Wolverine
Psylocke
Ideally, it would be set in an AU where Emma takes Angel's role on the Original 5 X-Men.
Bobby needs to be characterized in a manner similar to the "Cold Comfort" episode of XTAS, and both...
Precisely.
The only way for Marvel to make a profit with more mature content would be to make money from the viewing itself and/or control costs by using a cheaper method of animation.
I'd suggest using a Machinima-style technique (i.e. get a license for a 3d engine.... both Unreal and...
Personally, I like teddy bear Hulk.
I mean, look at Bruce's official backstory (abusive dad murdered his mom in front of his eyes, this gave him Dissociative Identity Disorder, the Hulk was one of those alter egos). Hulk's psychology is really that he just wants to get away from people trying...
Another good idea would be to portray a populace with a whole different variety of positions.
Some No More Mutants bigots would of course exist. But so would Mutants Are People Too advocates. And there would also be those who take middle-ground positions as well... for example, someone...
Cartoons don't profit by themselves anyway. They only profit when They Sell Toys.
Who buys the largest amount of superhero toys? Boys aged 6 to 12.
Marvel can still make animated films that are a bit more mature though (since you can profit by charging viewers). Still.... yeah.
Medinnus,
That's a good idea, and I agree a strong supporting cast should be developed. You make a good point with respect to the treatment of Tony in AEMH... he had his own buddies.
I agree its quite possible. That said I'd want the supporting cast to actually be well-developed and NOT simply...
I think Cap works better as part of an ensemble cast, but then again I prefer team shows to solo shows in general. Even my pet characters need other characters to interact with and function as foils.
Focus episodes within a team show, however, make complete sense.
I admit I'm a total sucker for the awesome bromance Clint and Steve had in EMH. So "Widow's Sting," "Hail HYDRA!" and "Emperor Stark" contained some of my favorite Cap moments.
Turning superheroes into the equivalent of pokemon really is groan-inducing. It may be an interesting idea for a video game but not for a show.
That said, if I HAD to do an anime plot based on this premise, here's what I'd do:
Generic Audience Surrogate Kid Main Character has all of these...
