Unconventional or unpopular opinions you have (re: animation)

In an alternate universe, I would have loved to see competing music networks like CMT and BET create their own line of animated programming–both were owned by Viacom at some point–as a sort of counter to the more punk-based output from MTV. Given how the popular music of MTV was integrated into...

I use IMDb purely for personal use. As a database, it's incredibly expansive going well beyond movies and into TV shows, videogames, music videos, Internet personalities, and what have you. The trivia section and other informative elements of a page are at least fine as well. That alone...

    Felix the Cat: The Movie

I saw this movie awhile ago. It's certainly applaudable to have such films remastered for whoever is willing to see them in glorious HD, but it is no good as a film. Although some folk on the defunct IMDb boards seem fond of it, protesting the score dropping dramatically after Nostalgia Critic...

Unconventional or unpopular opinions you have (re: animation)

I remember catching a couple episodes around the time and not being bothered by the visuals at all, or at least not in a way that messed with my eyesight. The worst I thought was that the cutting between shots was a bit erratic.

This might not be a terribly concrete thing to factor into that comment, but the fact one of the anthology stories could transform Bender into a human with virtually no change to his personality whatsoever makes that statement fairly dubious in its own right. There are many things that I love...

    Found any unknow/obscure cartoons?

There's a streaming service called Tubi (a region-specific streaming service with Very Probably No way around that for the rest of the world) that has an insane amount of content, in particular obscure finds. I did some digging and came up with various animation titles that are not well-known at...

    Unpopular Opinions

I think what's sad about this sort of backlash to me is that before Marvel brought multiverses to the big screen in a big way, I found the basic idea to be a fascinating concept. It's one thing to create an alternate reality/timeline that takes the familiarity of this universe and twists it into...

Cartoons you found too visually garish to watch?

I rather liked the squiggled outlines in Ed, Edd 'n' Eddy myself. Unlike the actual Squigglevision technology being used for shows like Dr Katz, the effect was specifically designed with slapstick animation in mind and I thought the show did a decent job at the effect. (Speaking of...

Cartoons you found too visually garish to watch?

Was there ever an animated series or film you tried watching but couldn't without feeling physically repulsed? I find it interesting to compare answers for the ugliest cartoons, but I usually feel strong enough to endure a cartoon no matter the way it looks...until I realise I'm not strong...

Things in animation that haven't aged well

I'm pretty late to this part of the thread but: Meta-humour in general is a tricky concept, and as someone who adored it in my adolescence I think the real problem is more that I loved it if it was baked into the show's premise itself. Usually that's not how meta-humour is used, rather as one...

    Fritz the Cat

Fritz the Cat - 5/10 The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat - 4/10 I don’t mind that it took me a month to get around to the sequel; I thought distancing myself enough from the first film without losing the sense of feeling I took away from it. But whereas the first film fired up an instant response...

    Unpopular Opinions

Don't you mean "apolitical"? There's no such thing as being politically neutral–the sheer density of politics goes well beyond picking a side and even when we try to suspend ourselves from such, there’s no way for certain our personal political backgrounds won’t influence us. I myself prefer to...

Let's talk music videos. Animated music videos are a pretty neat niche for the insanely versatile ways that music and visuals can be paired up. While the actual discussion of never-ending underrated videos would be better suited for another thread, I do have a few opinions on the most popular...

    Unpopular Opinions

Yes I went digging a bit to comment on these. On The Voyage Home, I thought it was popular to deem it among the best of the series, given the odd-numbered bad/even-numbered good rule of the franchise. I don't recall the rule ever really being phased out of fashion since the 90s. I'd argue your...

    "The Point..." anyone recall this?

For the first poster, it counts as both a special and a movie I think. I’d seen The Point years ago and decided to watch it again recently, if only to see if it was at the very least decent as I recalled (though my memory was hazy beyond a few scenes and one of the songs). In both instances I...
