Thats the one other possibilty. If Gainax is desperate enough for more exposure, then theres a chance they might be willing to tolerate a few edits to some of the tamer, non-plot essential episodes. Still though, I have a feeling Cartoon Network maybe the ones to bend backwards, when it comes...

They can't edit anything. Gainax has it specificly written in their contract that EVA *must* be run uncut, and uncesored. If Cartoon Network violates that contract Gainax would legally take them to the cleaners.
