That's something you see all the time in television and movies (I know the simpsons has done it many times before)... according to this page: http://ask.metafilter.com/mefi/28381 There is debate as to where it originated from, but it has defiantly been around for a long time.

Worst.Episode.Ever The Shipoopi song was awful, unnecessary, and too long. Why waste time writing jokes, when you can just have Peter randomly break out into song for 5 minutes? The Brian/Stewie scenes were terrible, and also too long. Really, this was without question the most poorly written...

I'd say this was the worst episode of the season so far. It sure as hell wasn't funny, and this didn't "open my eyes" like it was supposed to. This episode was basically just 22 minutes of aaron mcgruder ranting, disquising it as how Martin Luther King "would have thought" if he were still alive...

Maybe it's because I was only half watching and half cleaning my house, but what the hell was going on in this episode? That entire convience store scene managed to be longer than a family guy "so long it's funny" joke, and even less funny. I can now clearly see why fox rejected this show.

It's funny, I was about to post the same exact thing, except I would have said almost exactely the oposite for each point you mentioned. Threshold was awful television, and really does deserve the cancellation. It's amazing that after being handed that awful pilot episode, CBS didn't flat out...

Don't be so nice. It's a lackluster movie that is heralded as one of the all time greats because it's a "classic". There is a long list of much better fantasy films that deserve a spot higher than the Wizard of Oz. Really... If it had never been made, and you released an exact copy of the wizard...

Obviously I was exaggerating the amount of time the joke lasted. And you're right, the problem is not strictly with the "so long it's funny" gags, it's with the lackadaisical writing.

What exactely was so funny about this episode? :confused: This episode must have had atleast 5 of those, "Funny action that goes on forever" jokes. Joe being lifted into the truck for 45 seconds wasn't funny, and neither was the A-Team cutting down the tree with bullets for 35 seconds. The...

It was average. I'd say it's the best new adult swim show since Venture Brothers, but considering that's comparing it to Robot Chicken, 12 Oz Mouse, Stroker and Hoop, and Squidbillies, that's not saying much. The animation was nice which is a welcome change, and the grandfather got a few...

That was poo. Another great concept that adult swim has managed to ruin. The animation was nauseatingly bad, and made the pilot hard to follow. The only thing that was kind of funny was the corporate ladder guy. This better not be turned into a series */*****

Hopefully some sort of cable network will acquire the simpsons, because I am so tired of watching the same crappy 5 seasons in a row on my local fox affiliate. All they do is show the last 5 seasons over and over again, so you never get to see any good episodes.
