Another fun trivia bit about Jay Oliva -- he was a storyboard artist for the RoboCop: Alpha Commando TV series.
I'm sure that was the first thing he told Peter Weller upon meeting him :)
PS: Wow, haven't posted to this forum in years! I miss the days when we were all here on saturday night...
Wow, I watched the version without dialogue first and thought it looked [bad]. Now that I saw the version with dialogue and have some actual sense of the story and such, this looks AWESOME!
Very sad news, condolences to his family. Dwayne, thanks for all the incredible stories you wrote. You wrote some of my favorite JL/JLU episodes, as well as some of the episodes I thought jumped the shark. In both cases, I was always happy to see "Written by Dwayne McDuffie" at the beginning of...
Was just watching this video about the score for the new series "The Cape" and the composer, after citing John Williams and Danny Elfman for their Batman/Superman scores, specifically references Batman: The Animated Series as a model of how he's approaching the score of the show with regard to...
One thing I really liked about this movie was the music score. One of my complaints about the DCAU and especially the direct-to-DVD scores has always been that as good as they are, they never really expand the palette beyond a certain point. I like that they used the wailing woman (or whatever...
WARNING: Mask of the Phantasm spoilers (do I really need to say this? :))
Hey guys, haven't been to these boards in a while!
I would just like to point out, in regards to the non-mystery mystery nature of the film, that I've long argued that dramatically Mask of the Phantasm was somewhat...
I wouldn't call him dispassionate so much as subtle. His VA work in Legacy and his speech at the end of Apokolips Now, for example. I thought it fit quite well for the character. Superman's voice should reflect the sturdiness of the character. George Newbern did fantastic work in JLU, but by...
I could be mistaken but I think this had been discussed a few years ago and the conclusion was that Conroy just decided to change his Batman voice and it had nothing to do with any phsyical changes to Conroy's voice.
I'm absolutely thrilled this CD set was a success. This is a real measure of justice for the incredible music Shirley/Michael/Lolita/Kris have produced over the years, and I eagerly await the day when I've got hours and hours of these scores on my playlist.
Unfortunately I didn't buy the CD in...
My guess is that there was some extra cost involved in using the 16x9 transfers. I'm sure Warners didn't say "let's use the 4x3 transfer again for this 1080p blu-ray release even though we have access to the 16x9"
I hope it does well enough to make it to season 2. I'm not planning to buy...
If you watch "Last Son of Krypton" there's a few shots that are basically classic BTAS style (like after Superman defeats Metallo and they cut to a close-up painted shot of Superman's face with rain running down it).
I agree I miss the more daring art direction that we saw during the early BTAS...
