Yusuke's mom actually knew everything about the Spirit Detective business and all. She appeared and played more part in the manga, especially during the Dark Tournament. We don't know why, but the anime just did not include her and Shizuru played most of her part in the Dark Tournament arc.

The latest issue of Animerica include a special disk preview of episode 1 (dubbed). I'm not only sure if you need to be a subscriber (I am) to get the disk or if it's included when you buy the magazine in store. Hard to say if the voices are good or bad based on one episode, at least for me...
