The Fate of 2D Animated Films at Disney?

Oh yeah, I really wouldn't take what they say seriously. I DOUBT that handdrawn animation will truly die at Disney for good. IIRC, John Musker and Ron Clements' newest feature is going to be handdrawn... or at least produced in the same style as Paperman. If that's how they do animated films...

Toon Zone Talkback - PR: "Arrietty", "Castle in the Sky", "Whisper of the Heart" Coming to Blu-ray o

What about the Blu-Ray translation on the Japanese and UK releases? Those literal scripts were reportedly better timed and less inaccurate (or am I wrong about this). Sadly, the Laputa USA Blu-Ray only has the original score. It's also cut the extra lines out. Oddly, though, the UK...

Toon Zone Talkback - PR: "Arrietty", "Castle in the Sky", "Whisper of the Heart" Coming to Blu-ray o

I personally think you should; as great as the original score was, the newer soundtrack sounds far more rich and fully rendered, not just on a technical level, but as an overall powerful listening experience. There are many cues on the new score that really rival the original in many ways...

Toon Zone Talkback - PR: "Arrietty", "Castle in the Sky", "Whisper of the Heart" Coming to Blu-ray o

This. I think it would have been even better if Disney included BOTH versions of their dub on the BD release so that viewers can decide which is better, but... it looks like that's not going to happen either. **Sigh**. Oh well. At least I have my 2003 DVDs.

Toon Zone Talkback - PR: "Arrietty", "Castle in the Sky", "Whisper of the Heart" Coming to Blu-ray o

That is indeed correct. The Disney dub of Castle in the Sky in 2003 had a richly reorchestrated dub contributed by Hisaishi himself. But purist complaints caused Disney to revert it to the original Japanese soundtrack for their 2010 DVD. Strangely, though, the BD releases of Castle in the Sky...

VAs Who Are the Age of Their Characters

And that's precisely the problem I have with fans who simply don't like the dubs just because the English VAs don't sound the same as their Japanese VAs. Of course they're not going to; it's just how it is. But to be that critical of kid characters in Anime for being played by kids really...

What is your opinion on dubs that are filled with added in language?

Added-in swear language is hit and miss for me. Sometimes it can feel too excessive for a film targeted to a younger audience (Cagliostro), while other times it doesn't seem so bothersome if the source material is profane to begin with. That said, I really don't have a problem with added-in...

Studio Ghibli's "The Secret World of Arrietty" Talkback (Spoilers)

I actually saw this trailer when I went to see The Muppets this past weekend (which, by the way, was a lot of fun—I recommend it heartily), and I have to say that it sounds very solid. Then again, I love all the Ghibli dubs pretty much unreservedly, and I really don't expect this to be an...

Has a dub voice ever made you like a character more?

I agree wholeheartedly. He was GREAT as Ashram, and it's a shame he doesn't do much voice acting these days. I really liked his performance. Then again, Record of Lodoss War is a dub that I enjoy pretty much unreservedly; it's characters sound just right. The TV dub is unfortunately more...

VAs Who Are the Age of Their Characters

Of course, how could I EVER forget this dub? Parsons may have been inexperienced at the time of his performance as Jean and his French accent was a difficult obstacle for the young actor to nail, but I have to admit—he did a very good job... to the point where I can't imagine anyone else...

Toon Zone Talkback - PR: GKIDS Brings Complete Studio Ghibli Film Retrospective to NYC, LA, Chicago,

Here's the reason why Castle in the Sky's dub is not being shown. It's not because of purist backlash. On the contrary. GKids actually likes the dub, but there were some errors and mistakes on the 35mm print as opposed to the final mix on the DVD. They're still trying to make a new print of...

Greatest Animated Villain - Round 2

Oh definitely for sure. The dub of Castle is pretty damn good all around, but Hamill was its real star. He nailed the character's evil nature to a T and beyond. He really made the dub worthwhile.

    Goofy Movie talkback....

Mean would probably be a little too harsh a word. I mean, yes, Max DOES come across as a little TOO angry at Goofy at times, but he's nowhere nearly as much of a jerk as, say, Pete.

    Goofy Movie talkback....

Although, the whole thing really could've been avoided if Max had a bit more confidence in approaching Roxanne. It was obvious she really liked him BEFORE he even did the stunt to impress her. That and the principal's prediction of Max becoming a criminal was a little too... unbelieveable. Of...

    Goofy Movie talkback....

I do agree that Max DOES come across as pretty irate around Goofy in the film, although on the other hand, I could understand where he's coming from. After all, Goofy just forced him into the vacation without giving him a chance to explain his side of the story. That and "Lester's Possum Park"...
