A good retrospective overall, but has anyone ever noticed that the Filmmation Aquaman tends to be ignoed while fans more or less make drinking games out of lampooning his Super-Friends incarnation?
From what I can remember of this series - even without the intro - it was basically G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero crossed with Iron Man. Good times. I'll have to revisit it.
It's a fun little show if you like the retro charm it represents.
Fun fact: the character design of Hercules on this series inspired the look of the DCAU Superman from the 90s solo series (less so in Justice League but very much so in the mid-90s Superman series where they basically took this...
I like both shows but would have to agree that Batman TAS was the better show overall.
Then again, Bruce Timm and hi gang always seemed to have an easier time writing for Batman than Superman (but I'll take TAS Superman over YJ Superman and/or Snyder Superman any day).
I only recently rediscovered this show, my memories of it long buried in the subconscious. I vaguely remembered the dinosaur but not the human protagonists, some of whom were voiced by 80s Ninja Turtle actors Cam Clarke, Rob Paulsen, Townsend Coleman and even one time movie TMNT Donatello Adam...
A fun series to be sure, feeling like dress rehearsal for the later Hanna-Barbera pirate fantasy adventure "Pirates of Dark Water". Galtar has just enough charm to be an engaging lead and he has a good foil in Goleeta as GI Joe voice actress Mary McDonald-Lewis puts just enough Lady Jaye into...
Rediscovered this show recently and watched a handful of episodes so far. Fun times, great animation, catchy theme song (feels like the Mentos jingle was modeled on it). It's a shame that it hasn't gotten a proper DVD release (I can just imagine Dr. Scarab in all his George C. Scott based glory...
Too true, too true. I had never even considered that before but yeah, the guru thing probably would have played better off of Rhinox than Optimus. Perhaps the fates of Rhinox and Optimus should have been swapped...
Glad you enjoyed it. The info came up on a couple of different sites I frequent, such as IMDB, and whatever Transformer sites I used to go by. Somewhere out there is an interview of Gary Chalk (voice of Optimus Primal) talking about what a rotten experience it was working on Beast Machines and...
That's a good question that ties into an interesting leading to some very interesting interpretations of Hamilton in JLU and the DCAU in general - was he an arrogant man who put on a friendly front and took too much pride in being Superman's personal "Mr. Wizard" or was he a genuinely good man...
Glad you liked it, got the link from a friend.
I didn't see this posted here either, the original more Fleischer like designs for the 90s Superman show juxtaposed with the designs that were ultimately used (every time I show this to my friends they all say they like the prototype designs...
I remember seeing those designs for Justice League in WIZARD magazine. I always liked the more classic Supergirl and Aquaman designs.
Didn't see this posted here, un-used Catwoman designs juxtaposed with the designs that actually were used. On the far left is apparently the original prototype...
