    Most Groundbreaking Deaths in Animation?

Roy Fokker in Macross / Robotech was pretty shocking, in its time. He was the hero's best friend, and a fairly major character during the first half of the series. He also died after a relatively minor skirmish with the enemy, which kind of amplified the series' later anti-war storyline.

Jerry Beck Moves On From Cartoon Brew

I had already been less-and-less inclined to visit Cartoon Brew as often as I'd used to, ever since their site re-design late last year. Their landing page is now a cluttered mess, and the 'disqus' comment system is 'clunkier' than their previous system, IMO. Cartoon Research has still been in...

Anyone saw Great Mouse Detective back in 86 as a kid?

I saw The Adventures of the Great Mouse Detective (whose title was later shortened :anime:) in its original theatrical run when I was 16. It was a huge step-up from The Black Cauldron, and even the Disney movies from when I'd been a little kid, like Robin Hood or The Rescuers. (though, I did...

May 10th, 2011 -- What Did You Buy This Week?

I got Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated season 1 volume 2 on DVD, and The Illusionist on Blu-ray. I also ordered Frankenstein Jr and the Impossibles, Jabberjaw and Speed Buggy from the Warner Archive.

Why Doesn't Disney Air Some Of Its Classic Toons.

Actually -- at least during the 1980's -- the Disney Channel was not primarily 'tween'-oriented. In fact, the only truly 'tween' show I can think of, offhand, was The New Mickey Mouse Club. Morning hours were mostly geared to little kids (Mousercise, The House at Pooh Corner, etc). Mid-day...

    E-Readers and Digital Books

I bought a Nook Color last Christmas .. but honestly, I use it mostly for watching video .. it's perfect for that; especially while traveling. I've packed a couple of 8GB SD cards with about 300 classic short cartoons each..! It will also display PDFs, which makes it good for reading some...

    Misheard Lyrics (musical mondegreens)

I used to date a girl who seriously thought the refrain to Falco's Rock Me Amadeus went, Hot potatoes, Hot potatoes HOT potatoes! Hot potatoes, Hot potatoes HOT potatoes! Hot potatoes, Hot potatoes whooaa -- HOT potatoes! I still hear it that way, to this day.

Why Doesn't Disney Air Some Of Its Classic Toons.

Back in the 1980's & early 90's, when the Disney Channel was a premium (pay) cable station, they did air classic Disney animated shorts and films -- and even classic movies from other studios -- all commercial-free. I miss those days. :crying: I'm kinda surprised Disney hasn't launched a new...

April 12th, 2011 -- What Did You Buy This Week?

I bought The Incredibles on Blu-ray and Car 54, Where Are You? season 1 on DVD. I also got an 'incredible' :p deal yesterday on the Shrek: The Whole Story Blu-ray boxed set of all four Shrek films: thanks to a 'perfect storm' of a special sale promotion and a store membership discount, I paid...

    MGM Cartoons on DVD

The Gene Deitch Tom & Jerry shorts are included on a British DVD compilation from a few years ago (which would require a Region-2 or multi-region player). Be warned that this set is not ideal, however; in that many of the Hanna & Barbera cartoons are censored for violence, or otherwise simply...

    Favorite Cereal

As a kid, I loved Crazy Cow (alas, long since discontinued). It was saturated with flavoring that would "change the milk into chocolate milk". There was also a strawberry flavor. As an adult, my favorite cereal is Crispix. It's like eating Rice Chex and Corn Chex at the same time..! :chowder:

    MGM Cartoons on DVD

Some folks have nothing much nice to say about Ted Turner .. but at least, when he had the home video rights to the M-G-M cartoon library, he made them available for purchase on Laserdisc. I still have The Art of Tom & Jerry volumes I-III, The Compleat Tex Avery, and Happy Harmonies Laserdisc...

    Anyone here drink Coffee/tea?

Warm tea in the morning, chilled (not iced) tea throughout the rest of the day. Black; no sugar, lemon or other flavoring. :radda:

    Pixar Studios ‘Totoro’

He needs pearly-white giant 'Pixar eyes' .. that sqinty beady-eyed guy would never appear in an actual Pixar movie. :p Props for the 'one-word' title, though .. that says 'Pixar,' all the way. :D
