I enjoyed it. Green Arrow isn't anywhere close to a favorite of mine, but this offered pretty much everything I would want from a superhero story: decent story, good sense of light hearted adventure, some light comedy.
The second best of these DC direct to DVD movies -- but that's not saying much, because most of the rest have stunk. If nothing else, it's a significant improvement over the atrocious Superman/Batman: Public Enemies.
The animation is bold, but rather stiff. The character designs are pretty...
I watched it again last night.
Even though it's a Justice League movie, the Crime Syndicate were the real stars. I liked how they were structured as a, well, a syndicate, with Ultraman, Superwoman, etc being the heads of their crime organizations. Their characterizations were also strong...
Thus far, I have not been particularly impressed with these DCAU DVDs, which have ranged from adequate (NEW FRONTIER) to boring (SUPERMAN: DOOMSDAY) to borderline awful (WONDER WOMAN.) That losing streak has finally ended, as CRISIS is pretty darned good.
The animation is solid, and most of...
New Frontier, the only one of these DTVs that I've really enjoyed. My only complaint about that movie was that it had the superficial feel of a "Cliffs Notes" version of a better story -- not having read the comics themselves, I have no idea if the source material had more depth to it. I found...
And therein is my problem with it; what, exactly, was gained by making it for "mature audiences"? Some cretinous humor (Wonder Woman saying "crap" and kicking a guy in the groin? Oh so hilarious), some general smarminess, and some gratititous violence that added little if anything to the...
I just finished watching the Wonder Woman DVD; I thought it was okay.
The animation was solid, and the designs were good. With the sole exception of Wonder Woman herself, who was excessively angular with an unattractive blob of black mass on her head passing for hair.
Most of the voice...
I find that unlikely. I've read Wonder Woman comic books my entire life and, aside from New Frontier, I can't recall a single instance where it was stated that bystanders could see Wonder Woman inside her plane. Of course the readers could see her; otherwise we would have been looking at an...
I thought the movie, like the original comic, was decent but unspectacular. There was a lot about the movie I enjoyed, but my overall reaction was unenthusiastic.
These kinds of stories -- that bounce through the years, telling vignettes here and there -- usually feel like a "Cliffs Notes"...
I would not like to see a "Crisis" in the DCAU. CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS was conceived to simplify and streamline a DCU that had allegedly become bloated and convoluted (in practice it just made things even more confusing, but that's another discussion.)
The DCAU doesn't need to be streamlined.
That doesn't make any sense though. Black Adam used the summoned lightning to transform Captain Marvel back to his alter ego -- the purpose the lightning has always served. Captain Marvel using the same tactic on Superman should have one of two effects: give Superman the power of Shazam, or...
I always have a problem when writers chose to use the Shazam lighting bolt as an offensive weapon.
The vast majority of the time, the "lightning" serves only one purpose: to transform the summoner into a Marvel. There is never an indication that this bolt has characterstics of normal...
Why is it in these theoretical fight situations, only Batman is given "time to prepare"? With "time to prepare," I suspect most Leaguers would find a way to deal with the problem at hand.
Since this is purely theoretical, there's no reason I can't pick heroes who haven't appeared or JLU or may be unavailable. My team:
Captain Marvel
Blue Beetle
Plastic Man
Captain Atom
Black Canary
Green Arrow
Zatanna
JL was my favorite. JLU had some great episodes, but was too uneven overall. Ranking the series would be something along these lines: JL, STAS, BB, BTAS, JLU
I haven't seen enough Static to have an opinion on the series, and never saw a single episode of Zeta.
