"DC Nation" Programming News & Discussion, Part 2 (Spoilers)

I wonder how DC feels about all this. CN might be happy just with Teen Titans Go as a goofy boy cheaply made show, but DC (or at least the impression I got) seemed to really want an action block to compete with Marvel shows on Disney XD and CN is just not cooperating.

DC wants their other characters to get hype for films and such, which isn't happening.

I imagine DC hates CN for the shoddy treatment they've dealt their shows in more recent times and probably wish they weren't bound to them, though odds are they wouldn't have any better luck on some other network in this current anti-action/pro-stupid little boy humor-comedy era we currently live in right now.

Pretty much. Although CN is especially stupid about this lately.

Maybe they could try partnering with the Hub once their obligation to CN is out (I doubt they'll sustain it if CN keeps screwing them like this)

I don't think it's that simple, not with all the red tape binding DC to CN and WB.

And once again, DC Nation is pre-empted on March 1, this time for a Tenkai Knights marathon.

Yeah, it doesn't look like CN cares about this block anymore. Not to bash Tenkai Knights, which I actually like, but this is the fourth time this year. I'm not going to make a big deal over the Pokémon movies, because I thought it was really nice seeing the remastered Mewtwo movie, and it made sense to run the Genesect movie after the Mewtwo: Prologue to Awakening special, since it had only gotten one airing and... well, that is a prologue to the Genesect movie. At first, I didn't make a big deal about Beywarriors since it was a new thing and I thought CN wanted to catch up to YTV, but now they're just running Beywarriors from episode 1! So what was the point of that marathon?! And now this... ugh, they're just finding any excuse they can now.

Will the Batman Beyond DC Animated Short series take place in the DCAU?

Will the Batman Beyond DC Animated Short series going to take place in the DCAU? Will I be able to buy this series or watch it for free online legally? I am still going to get a legal copy of this series even if it does not take place in the DCAU.

This is literally all we know for sure at the moment:

Bruce Timm and Darwyn Cooke are set to reunite on an upcoming Batman Beyond DC Nation animated short. While we can not currently confirm if the short will be a single-installment or the start of a series, we can confirm it is set to debut in 2014 during the 75th anniversary celebration for Batman. Cooke will take the design and storyboard lead on the short. Expect further details in the coming months.

The fact that Timm and Cooke are involved would suggest it being within the shows continuity, but as I said, we don't know for sure. Timm and Cooke could very easily tell a non-canon tale.

Considering a lot of the shorts place much more of an emphasis either on comedy or of just a general more abstract or out there design of the character, I kind of doubt it. Especially since CN might feel it'd confuse kids or something if the shorts had a direct relation to a show that's been off the air for a decade. Like how those TT shorts that launched TTG weren't part of the main series continuity. I could be wrong though and hey I would like to see more done with Batman Beyond but again we'll have to see about that when it actually happens.

Wow, they actually aired a new interstitial this morning - a Wonder Woman biography. With the JL: War and WW short designs.

Will the Batman Beyond DC Animated Short series going to take place in the DCAU?
We don't know yet.

Will I be able to buy this series
We don't know yet. Unlikely, based on precedent. Of the 22, only 1 has been included on a release. That was the Superman 75 short on Man of Steel.

or watch it for free online legally?
Yes. CN, DC Nation or DC Comics' official YouTube accounts post these shorts.

What's this about new Batman Beyond shorts?

What's the length of these shorts normally?

We have no idea, it could be super short like the "New Teen Titans" were.

How long were they?
Bobby, just to clarify, was your original question essentially what's the longest and shortest length a short has been so far among the 22 titles?

Long Answer: If yes, based on incomplete data (I only have runtimes of 10 titles from 'season one'), the average runtime is 1 minute, 15 seconds. The shortest I've seen so far were New Teen Titans' "Burp" the short version showed during the November 2011 preview was 00:28 and Animal Man, two of those were about 31 seconds. The longest I seen so far is Super Best Friends Forever "Invisible Joyride" at 1 minute 17 seconds. There could be longer and shorter run times with the shorts shown post-'season one' but I don't have those runtimes as of right now but I remember back in October 2011, Sam Register said the shorts would run anywhere from a 1 minute to 1 minute, 30 seconds. So I would hazard a guess, minute 30 would be the longest. The exception would be the Superman 75 short. That one was 2 minutes, 14 or 15 seconds I believe. But that was for the anniversary, hence why I consider it an exception.

Short Answer: A range of about 30 seconds up to 1 minute, 30 seconds.

[The incomplete data
-DC's World's Funnest: 00:57, 00:57, 1:00, 00:59
-New Teen Titans: 01:15, 01:12, 00:55, 00:28, 00:55, 00:55, 01:08, 00:55
-Plastic Man: 01:15, 01:15, 01:15
-Superman of Tokyo: 01:15, 01:15
-Super Best Friends Forever: 01:17, 01:14, 01:02, 01:14
-MAD: 01:06, 01:13, 01:04, 01:14, 01:02, 01:13
-Animal Man: 00:44, 00:31, 00:31, 00:44
-Vibe: 01:14, 01:14
-Sword of the Atom: 01:15, 01:14. 01:14, 01:14, 01:15
-Bat Man of Shanghai: 01:15, 01:14, 01:14]

Yo, you are ridiculously thorough :D I really wish we could just get some Green Lantern & Young Justice reruns for the DC Nation block...

@Yojimbo: What was wrong with Diedrich Bader as Batman? He did a near-spot-on mimic of Kevin Conroy as Batman, which worked great.

The only way to salvage DC Nation at this point is for WBA to shop it around, the whole kit & kaboodle, except, of course Teen Titans Go!, which Snyder and his idiot followers can keep. About as funny as an earthworm in a cup of clam chowder.

I wasn't asking that thoroughly but thank you for been so thorough answers my question better than I had anticipated.

Thank you. That's the tip of the iceberg. ;)

Nothing, I enjoy Bader as Batman... what post of mine are you referring to?

This one, in response to Cybercubed:

That is a slippery slope to tread on.

Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
