What Are You Reading? (Vol. III)

I finished reading Yu-Gi-Oh! GX volume nine yesterday and I loved it. There was a lot of great tension and suspense building up to the final confrontation with the villain. That specific duel was really engaging and showed off Jaden and Chazz's awesome manga decks. The ending to the match was pretty cool, but then it ended on a rather depressing note. The epilogue itself came out of nowhere and the volume really needed another couple of chapters, at least, focusing on the aftermath of the duel for both those who were involved and those who were just watching to give them closure, especially when only Jaden and maybe Chazz had some sense of conclusion out of the entire cast. This also would have provide a much better transition to the epilogue and maybe it could have been a bit longer to see what the other characters were doing after they all had graduated.

Even with the rushed conclusion and the depressing note for the duel's ending, it was still relatively enjoyable conclusion and the epilogue, despite coming out of nowhere, at least ended the series on a bit of happier note. I really wish that this series didn't have such a rushed conclusion, but I still love it and this was a pretty solid read. I'm really going to miss looking forward to the next GX manga volume being released and getting my pre-order copy shipped early. It was such a great series.

I am currently reading One Piece volume 59, and instead of pounding it out in a half hour like I usually do for manga volumes, I've been reading this volume and the last few at a slower pace of only a few chapters a day, because, frankly I'm not really digging the current arc/what's happening. I found the Paramount War to be mostly made up of people standing around and talking a lot, with not nearly enough usage of the many powerful characters that were on the battlefield. Whitebeard himself didn't even jump into the mix until about halfway through.
I even got so fed up with the Paramount War arc that I stopped reading One Piece daily, I even chose to watch It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia during my last bath instead of reading (One Piece) like I usually do.

I also am reading Naruto volume 23, Dragonball Z volume 15, and Dr. Slump volume 11. I just started reading the DBZ and Dr. Slump volumes today, and due to everything involved with my recent move, I haven't picked up the Naruto volume for a few weeks.

Also in my current reading list, I have The Man With Two Left Feet, a short-stories collection by P.G. Wodehouse, my favorite non-comic book or manga author. I've only read the first story, but it was an entertaining comedy about a bad private detective going undercover to follow a theatre troupe. It set the rest of the collection up to be high quality, hopefully it is.

Eragon. I'm working on a reread of books 1-3 in the Inheritance Cycle so I can finally get around to reading book 4... which has been out for 10 months. Woops?

Just finished "The Shadow Rising" which is the fourth book in The Wheel of Time series. With book 14 which is the final book coming out in January I should finish them all in plenty of time.

I am reading the gone series by Michael Grant. It's like the sci-fi version of lord of the flies

I finished reading The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan and I thought it was pretty good. The story was engaging, the main characters were pretty likable, I liked how the siblings grew much closer over the course of the book, the climax was pretty intense, there were a few well done emotional moments throughout the story and the ending was fairly satisfying. However, I didn't like the recording device he was using for the narration. It helped to move back and forth between the two main leads' perspective, but it felt too distracting at times and it felt like he could have just focused on their individual thoughts with third-person narration. While the story was engaging, its basic components reminded me a lot of Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. It wasn't too distracting, but it was still noticeable. Aside from the climax, most of the battles weren't too engaging and there were points where it felt like it dragged on, although starting it and then not reading the book for a few days might have helped with that as well.

It wasn't my favorite book by the author. I'd give that to The Lost Hero, but it was still a pretty good first book to this series. I'll get the second and third books at some point, but I'll wait until after I get the third book in the Heroes of Olympus series.

I'm currently reading Witch and Wizard from James Patterson. Its not as good as Daniel X, but its not bad.

A Mourning Wedding by Carola Dunning. It's a Daisy Dalrymple Mystery, which takes place in England during the 1920's.

It's pretty much cozy mystery series, short and entertaining.

I am currently reading Marked by P.C and Kristin Cast. It is a good book so far and i will consider getting the others in the series

I'm reading James Patterson's Nevermore, the final book in the Maximum Ride series. I hope for a good ending.

I read Pokemon Adventures D/P/Pl volume six and Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's volume three. While I don't think that volume six was as good as volume five, it still provided some nice progress in the storyline revolving around Team Galactic and it's still refreshing to see the three leads traveling on their own and getting new Pokemon for their team. The third volume of 5D's was possibly the best one of the series thus far with the plot starting to get really intense, the characterization for the twins is pretty cool and there are a couple of really great duels here. It still hasn't impressed me as much as the GX series did, but it's looking really good right now.

Ba-bump!

Just finished Struck By Lightning: The Carson Phillips Journal by Chris Colfer [strike](yes, from Glee)[/strike]. It was incredibly wry, which is totally my sense of humor. Loved it.

Reading a bunch of Marvel and DC graphic novels, including a volume of the famous Age of Apocalypse arc and Daredevil: Season One.

Finally read Volume 1 of Image Comics' Morning Glories last night. Lots of rave reviews, but I wasn't particularly impressed. There's a lot going on and little explanation for anything. Not sure if I'll continue with Volume 2.

Have also started reading The Shining. I've never read a Stephen King book before, so this is my first. I'm about 150 pages in. The Torrances have settled into the Overlook and their stay is about to begin.

I'm almost done with a biography on Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. After, I'm diving in to the latest Dresden Files. So excited!

About done reading "ARCHIE MEETS NERO WOLFE".
First new Nero Wolfe Mystery in almost 20 years.
This probably is the BEST of the Robert Goldsbrough "Nero Wolfe" novels.

Started reading Wheel of Time back in January and am now just a few chapters from finishing Book 13 - Towers of Midnight. I plan on reading the prequel, New Spring and maybe even re-read Book 1 again before finally reading the last book next month.

*Finished it! (wish the next book was already out, it's only a month but this is still going to feel like a loooong wait!!!)

I'm reading Gypsy Fok Tales by Francis Hinde Groome.

I'm trying to catch up on the amazing backlog of reading material I've amassed since August. I didn't have time for it because of grad school.

I just finished volume 1 of "Chew" following all 4 volumes of Jack Kirby's 4th World Omnibus and let me tell you reading those Kirby books weren't just reading, they were an endurance trial. Not sure what to read next. The 4th World trades were such hardcore space opera that I feel I need something as far removed from that as possible to get the space opera out of my system (don't get me wrong, I like space opera but you've gotta switch it up between readings), hence "Chew". I know I must have a good hard boiled mystery noir book around here somewhere, I just can't remember where I left it.
